OUR STORY

Black Dog Storage and Kayak Rentals is a family owned and operated business established in 2019. We are Donald and Ginger Flatt, Lifetime residents of Southern Illinois. We live in rural Mulkeytown along with our daughter Hannah. We also have a son Dustin and a precious grandson, Bronson. Spending time with family is one of our greatest joys in life.

After my husband Donald retired (too young I may add) from Frontier after 28 years of service and I had worked for 28 years as an RN we were looking for a new adventure. We kicked around the idea of building a Boat & RV storage facility for a few years, but finding the perfect location became challenging. We purchased 11381 Rend City Rd late July 2019. We thought the location along with proximity to the lake was perfect for our needs. We are 1/2 mile South of Rend Lake Dam. After extensive renovation inside and out, we opened November 2019.

ABOUT OUR COMPANY

Black Dog offers Boat and RV storage options for everyone. We have inside, outside, covered storage. We offer long-term contracts as well as short term and even daily storage options with power hookup if needed. But that’s not all! After careful evaluation of our facility and the needs of visitors to our beautiful Rend Lake, we decided to add other services. Rend Lake offers 6 Kayak trails around the lake and we have Kayak Rentals to meet your needs. 4hr and 8 hr Kayak rentals are available with delivery and pick up options to the lake if needed. We also sell Camping and fishing supplies (Grizzly Jigs) live bait, Packaged Liquor (Wines from our local vineyards), Groceries, Ice, Propane, Firewood, Fountain Drinks, Specialty items like Sober Dough, Brumate, and handmade craft items and T-shirts. We would love to be your one stop shop while you are enjoying beautiful Rend Lake. And we can’t forget the reason for our name! Our beautiful Rottweiler Zeus Maximus. He is truly a gentle giant and the kindest soul you will ever meet. He loves nothing more than meeting new people. He also loves his naps so he may or may not get out of his bed to say Hello!!!
